SLL COVID-19 Update 3-12-2020

Dear Parents, Players, Coaches, and Volunteers of Shoreline Little League,

What a strange world we live in.  This week of sun filled with hopes of baseball and softball comes to an end with the announcement of Governor Jay Inslee that gatherings of more than 250 people are all cancelled. After the proclamation both Seattle and Shoreline School District have suspended class for at least two weeks.

At a time when the kids of Shoreline need baseball and softball more than ever to stay in touch with their friends and teammates, we as a League are forced to make the difficult decision of whether or not to suspend activities.  The Board has discussed this situation at length with arguments for and against suspending activities.  The conclusion is that due to additional guidance from the King County Department of Health for gatherings of less than 250 people, we are not prepared to meet the new safety requirements that are mandated at this time.  Because of this we will suspend activities of Shoreline Little League for the time being.  As with many other areas of our lives such as work, school, public meetings and events, the guidance is fluid and changing rapidly.  As a League we will spend the next week working hard to meet the Health Department guidelines and hopefully be able to return to the fields in a week or two.

As we move forward we will keep you informed through emails and updates to the website as necessary. At this time, all events related to Shoreline Little league are on hold. There will be no gear pick up for AA baseball coaches on Saturday, the Umpire Mechanics clinic on Sunday is postponed and no baseball or softball practices will take place.  You should expect an update weekly starting on March 16th.

In the meantime please stress to your player that we do this with heavy hearts.  I for one would like to be out watching our youngsters playing as opposed to watching the news or reading on the internet about the world situation.  If we stay together and support one another I believe our Shoreline community will come out of this better for it.  We will update you accordingly as things can change.

Please direct questions to [email protected].

Thank You,
John Lynch
President, Shoreline Little League
